There are moments in life when people find themselves searching— but not always knowing what they are looking for. They sense that something is missing but they don’t know what it is. When I removed the backing, to my great surprise, I found another portrait. Behind the image of the soldier…was the image of a child —perhaps my grandfather as a boy. Behind the warrior… there was a child. That discovery has stayed with me. Because in many ways, it reveals a truth we often forget: beneath all our strength, above all our accomplishments, and beyond all the roles we grow into—there remains something essential about being a child.

Jesus says: "I am the Good Shepherd. My sheep know my voice and they follow me.' But Jesus does not give us this image without also giving us a warning. He says the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Who is Jesus talking about? Who is the thief? The thief is the enemy of our soul, Satan.

Our gospel reading today is a story that is deeply human and very familiar to those of us who desire to walk with Jesus in the journey of faith

One of the main characters of our gospel lesson has a nickname. He is known as "Thomas the Twin"; probably because he had a twin brother or a twin sister. But down through church history Thomas has been given another nickname that is not so nice. He has become known as "Thomas the Doubter".

This is how God acts when it comes to resurrection power. God causes the very foundations of the earth to tremble. The old order of what use to be begins to disappear; and the new order bursts forth into a glorius reality.

Today we celebrate Palm Sunday and declare with the Jerusalem crowd that Jesus is King.

The overriding truth of all of these readings it summed up by Jesus when he says that it is often the seeing who are blind and the blind are the ones who end up seeing..

When someone truly encounters Jesus, invariably something gets left behind.

Pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem sang this Psalm. It is a psalm for the road. It is a ipsalm for the Jews to sing on their way to worship God. It is a psalm for us as we continue our journey through life.

Jesus' disciples are remembered as saints. There is many...Saint Peter, Saint James, Saint Mary-even Saint Thomas. But have you ever heard of Saint Judas.

Grace is one of those words we use often in church...indeed, so often that we sometimes forget how radical it really is.

Epiphany is the season of revelation. It is the celebration of God’s light breaking into the world.

In a short while we will sing the Christmas carol “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.” We had a foretaste of that hymn last Sunday when Evelyn led us on a joyful musical journey through a medley of Christmas carols, including this one.

Dear fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, tonight is special. The Sanctuary is nearly full and our faces are aglow with the joy of Christmas.

Matthew tells the Christmas story in a quieter way than Luke. There are no angels filling the sky, no shepherds rushing from the fields, no songs of glory echoing in the night.
